Projects – Forest School "Pefkites"

Pefkites organize a variety of seminars that are always concerned with raising people’s awareness of the protection of the environment, the preservation of our intangible cultural heritage, preserving the cultural landscape, the principles of parenthood, and contributing to emotional qualification as well as the dissemination of Forest Pedagogy.

1. Seminars on Forest Pedagogy

With more than ten years of experience in the applied Pedagogy of the Forest, we come to respond in the best possible way to the request of educators, but also of sensitized parents, in order to cover the urgent need for knowledge and application of this very special pedagogical approach. Which comes, among other things, as an antidote to the irrational and uncritical use of screens and electronic games, but also as an alternative perspective on the course of Education by moving children to open and outdoor spaces, outside the classrooms. A different way of approaching childhood is suggested, offering plenty of alternative suggestions. Our educational program, which has already been established since 2017 under the auspices of the Ministry of Education, is analyzed and applied as practice by the participants. It is divided into an introduction and four sub-cycles per season.

2. “We are becoming archaeologists“

With our educational goal of familiarization with the vocabulary of archeology (pit, tablet, depths, compass, excavation log, shell, periapto, thread, conservator, etc.), the hill with the secrets and superimposed layers of history, we set up in schools across the country a simulated archaeological dig experiencing the status of an archaeologist, or conservator, or designer, or excavator.

The joy of discovery and the excitement of holding a piece of history in your hands is achieved through the experimental excavation carried out in a suitably prepared area of the school yard. As a preparation for the children, there is an educational game based on the body language of the statues for grades 1 to 3, while for grades 4 to 6 a familiarization with either the archaeological book and an object (lamp, figurine, cup Pythagoras, etc.), or an introductory presentation of slides in the form of a question-and-answer game.
